Rector of SUM visiting the NOC BIH

The Rector of the University of Mostar, Prof. Dr. Sc. Zoran Tomić, visited the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Olympic Museum in Sarajevo, where he was received by the President of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Academician Prof. Dr. Izet Rađo.

In an atmosphere of mutual respect and a shared vision, they discussed concrete steps toward establishing a Sports Department within the Rectorial Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the aim of providing systematic support for student sports and involving young athletes in international university events such as the Universiade.

"The Olympic spirit and the academic community together can bring new value to sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Partnership with sports institutions is the foundation for educating young people who aspire not only to knowledge but also to excellence, respect, and unity—values rooted in Olympism," stated Prof. Dr. Tomić.

The visit symbolizes a bridge between knowledge and sport, the past and the future, as it was emphasized that the development of young people requires a comprehensive approach where intellectual and athletic potential are not separated but complemented.

The collaboration between the University of Mostar and the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, confirmed by last year's Memorandum of Understanding, is strategically aimed at athlete education, development of Olympic sports, academic and scientific exchanges, and joint applications for EU projects in the field of sports.

As part of the visit, Prof. Tomić also toured the Olympic Museum in Sarajevo, where he spoke with the museum director, Senka Ibrisimbeogović. At the end of the meeting, the president of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina presented him with symbolic gifts as a lasting remembrance of the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo—a historic event that still lives on as a powerful reminder of sport's ability to unite people and inspire generations.
