OLYMPIC BOUQUETS | WOG BEIJING 2022

Olympians competing in the Beijing Games will not receive the typical bouquets of flowers given to athletes who reach the medal podium. Instead, it will get something more sustainable and long-lasting.

According to the Beijing 2022 organizing committee, wool bouquets will never wither and have the feature of low carbon, reflecting the concept of the “Green Olympics”.

The bouquets for the awards ceremony at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will be different from the previous Olympics because they are made of wool.

Hengyuanxiang Group, a wool manufacturer based in Shanghai and one of the official sponsors of the Beijing Winter Olympics, has hired knitting groups in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Zhejiang and Jiangsu to join the project.

The Olympic bouquet consists of seven different wool flowers including roses, lilies, osmanthus, and green olives.

A total of 1,251 bouquets are needed to award prizes at the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics. Each flower is handmade, which requires a lot of time and labor.

According to the statement, the selected flowers symbolize friendship, perseverance, happiness, unity, victory, and peace.
