CLIMATE CHANGE: "Act now or it will be too late!"
Introductory, educational preparations have begun in the NOC BIH
Scientists have issued a "final warning" for the climate crisis, as rising greenhouse gas emissions push the world to the brink of irreparable damage that only swift and drastic action can prevent. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), composed of the world's leading climate scientists, published the final part of its sixth assessment report a few days ago. The comprehensive review of the report on the climate crisis, for more than a hundred scientists, took eight years and consists of thousands of pages, but it came down to one single message: "Act now or it will be too late!" - reports the Guardian.
We remind that the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina is part of a large family of Olympic Committees from the EU (18 partners), the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), the ÖKO Ecological Institute from Germany, with the coordinator of the European Olympic Committees in the project "OCEAN ". Using sport as one of the most powerful tools for a positive impact on society, the EU partner countries of the project and the Olympic Family understood this as an important call. Taking into account the fact that the climate crisis directly affects sports, and endangers and even threatens the disappearance of certain sports by increasing the temperature, the Olympic Committee has already taken certain strategic steps.
Internal education and preparations of employees and associates have begun to raise awareness of this topic, the global context, and its impact on sports and life in general.
The aim of the training is to strengthen the National Olympic Committees in order to build capacities and skills for reducing the emission of harmful gases and measuring the carbon footprint, as well as strengthening internal forces for good climate change management. The final goal is to create a national strategy and involve all important stakeholders from Bosnia and Herzegovina in this globally important topic.
