Great results of BIH competitors

Last weekend, BIH athletes performed at tournaments around the world, read the great results below.

ATHLETICS

During the weekend, our athletes Amel Tuka, Mesud Pezer and Abedin Mujezinović performed at the European Athletics Indoor Championships, which were held in Toruń, Poland.

The best BiH athlete in shot put, Mesud Pezer, had a good performance in the qualifications and thus secured his performance in the finals. Mesud took 8th place in the final.

Amel and Abedin competed in the 800m discipline. Unfortunately, Abedin did not manage to reach the semifinals. In the first round, he took 4th place with a time of 1: 49.86, and 7 hundredths of a second separated him from 3rd place, which leads to the semifinals. Amel took the 1st place in both races, the first round and the semifinals, and thus qualified for the final race. He took 5th place in the finals and once again showed his quality before the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

TAEKWONDO

The eighth international G1 tournament "RAMUS SOFIA OPEN" was held in Sofia, in which competitors from Bosnia and Herzegovina participated and won a total of 10 medals.

The best result for the representatives of BiH was achieved by our scholarship holder Marija Štetić, who won a silver medal. On her way to second place, Štetić achieved four victories, and in the semifinals she defeated multiple Olympic winner Jade Jones by a golden point.

Young Olympic Hope Ada Avdagić, who is also an NOC BIH scholarship holder, also won a gold medal in the junior category.

On the first day of the tournament, cadets and juniors won 8 more medals, of which two gold, one silver and five bronze: Zorana Sandić and Ejla Makaš won gold medals, Hena Kudra won a silver medal, while Ira Grgić, Šejla Ćatić, Fahrudin won bronze. Adilović, and Milica and Jelena Vasić.

SHORT TRACK

Senior national team member of Bosnia and Herzegovina in short track, Tarik Omeragić, with the support of the Federation of Skating Sports of BIH, performed at the World Championships in Dordrecht (Netherlands), from 5 to 7 March 2021.

In the competition of the 44 best short track atheles in the world, mostly world and Olympic winners, Tarik's performance in all three disciplines (500, 1000 and 1500m) was good. We especially highlight the 500m race in which he set a new state record with a time of 0:43.090 s, which was held by Edin Branković until then. This result is all the more valuable, because since March last year, due to the pandemic and the impossibility of training outside BIH, Tarik had only 20 days of training on the ice in Celje, just before leaving for the World Cup.

The Federation of Skating Sports of BIH pointed out that they are satisfied with Tarik's performance, that they expect even better results from him in the continuation of the skating season, especially in the qualifications for the performance at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

TENNIS

BIH tennis player Tomislav Brkić won his first ATP title in his career. Last weekend, he won the ATP 250 tournament in Buenos Aires in doubles with Nikola Čačić. With this title, Brkić is positioned on the 71st place in the ATP doubles list.
