Historical appearance of BH. curling team at the EYOF Friuli Venezia Giulia 2023 Olympic competition

EYOF 2019 is the largest sports competition organized in Bosnia and Herzegovina, after the Winter Olympics in 1984. It was held in the period from February 9th to 16th, 2019. The visionary concept and the very idea for the organization of EYOF in Sarajevo and East Sarajevo came from the members of the Presidency of the BiH Olympic Committee (Mr. Siniša Kisić, Mr. Marijan Kvesić, and Academician prof. dr. Izet Rađo) back in 2007.

On February 9, 2019, under the slogan "We create together", a magnificent opening ceremony of the winter EYOF Sarajevo - East Sarajevo was held, as the biggest sports event after the Winter Olympic Games held in our capital in 1984.

More than two thousand athletes, coaches, officials, and members of delegations from 46 European countries stayed in Olympic Sarajevo from February 9 to 16, 2019 and defended the colors of their homeland.

The program of the Festival included eight sports, one of which was curling.

This was a significant moment for all athletes and spectators, especially curling fans.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, until the EYOF 2019, curling was an underdeveloped and unknown sport, and at that moment there was not a single curling club.

The first official meeting on the subject of curling was held in Ljubljana in 2013 at the Union Hotel with the Secretary General of the Slovenian Curling Association Gregor Rigler, attended by the President of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina Siniša Kisić and the Secretary General Assoc. Dr. Said Fazlagić.

The organizing committee of EYOF 2019 tasked Mr. Mir Klepić, who until then was responsible for alpine skiing, as a sports enthusiast, together with his colleagues and friends to organize curling competitions that were held in Pale in the Peki sports hall.

With the help of our friends from the European Olympic Committee, competitions were successfully held at EYOF Sarajevo - East Sarajevo, and after that several clubs were formed, and in 2021, with the great support of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the BiH Curling Association was founded.

31.03.2022., the BiH Curling Association became a full member of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and as the 39th member joined this great Olympic family. The BiH Olympic Committee has 30 Olympic and 9 non-Olympic sports members under its auspices.

With the establishment of the BiH Curling Association, the Olympic Committee of BiH and winter sports in BiH gained a new member as well as new opportunities to engage in winter sports and create new top sports results and medals.

Today, four years after the EYOF Sarajevo - East Sarajevo, curling athletes hold their training on the ice rink - Zetra and prepare for their first historic appearance at the Olympic competition EYOF Friuli Venezia Giulia 2023. Bh. curling team at the 16th winter EYOF- which will be held in Italy, will consist of young athletes Ana Klepić, Marija Savić, Mihajlo Ignjić, and Aleksa Cincar, and coach Vladan Savić with the great support of the President and one of the founders of the BiH Curling Association, Mr. Mir Klepić.

The performance of Ana, Marija, Mihajlo and Aleksa will be recorded as a great example of the importance and value of the Olympic heritage, confirming the slogan that we can achieve faster, more and stronger only together.

We wish our curling team as well as the other athletes who will defend the colors of Bosnia and Herzegovina much success and sporting happiness.
