Sanjin Pehlivanović won a silver medal at the World Games

The best billiards player from Bosnia and Herzegovina achieved the greatest success in his senior career, in a competition in which 3600 athletes participated

The best Bosnian pool player, Sanjin Pehlivanović, continued to shine on the world stage and in Birmingham (Alabama, United States of America) achieved his greatest success in his senior career.

Pehlivanović won the silver medal at the World Games after being defeated in the extraordinary final by the German Joshua Filler, considered by many to be the best player in the world.

Sanjin led most of the match, he had 8:7, but Filler, who has literally everything a pool player can have in his treasury (world champion, European champion, US Open winner), had more concentration in the final games.

The World Games are the counterpart of the Olympic Games, and non-Olympic sports are contested in them. At this year's World Games, 3,600 athletes in 34 sports from 100 countries of the world took part.

The World Games have been held since 1981, and sports that are still not in the Olympic Games are contested. They are recognized by the International Olympic Committee and it often happened that sports from the World Games became Olympic after a certain time.

Billiards has been part of the program of every World Games since the 2001 Games in Akita, Japan. The competition system is such that only 16 players play in the final tournament, and all of them are champions of the world and their continents. Pehlivanović was the European champion in the discipline "10" and thus got a place in Birmingham.

In the first round, the 20-year-old from Sarajevo defeated Omar Al-Shaheen from Kuwait, 11:3, and in the second match he beat John Morra from Canada, 11:9. The opponent in the semi-final was the great Aloysius Yapp from Singapore, Pehlivanović beat him 11:7 and secured the medal.

"The match was extremely difficult, I had a chance with a 5:3 lead, I didn't use it, Josh played some incredible moves. I am happy that I won the silver medal, although I feel that I could have done more. I am the first player from Bosnia and Herzegovina who came to the World Games, I'm always proud when I do something for my country, we are a small country and it's a great feeling when you do something for your country to be heard all over the world. This year is going well for me, I'm here, I hope that I will soon be at the very top." Pehlivanović said after the match.
