Meeting of the Presidency of the Olympic Committee of BiH and the Mayor of Sarajevo

The two Olympic cities Barcelona and Sarajevo have begun serious preparations for a possible candidacy for the 2030 Winter Olympics. "Dear Sarajevo" with the successful organization of the XIV Winter Olympics, rich Olympic culture and heritage can certainly contribute to the idea of organizing joint Games with Barcelona. It is important to emphasize that the two cities, Barcelona and Sarajevo, have been "brotherly" cities since 2000.

Although this is a beautiful idea of two cities, it is a difficult and thorny path to its realization. Therefore, the leaders of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina have begun serious preparations, and have already held a series of meetings with stakeholders. Among them, a meeting with the Mayor of the City of Sarajevo, Mrs. Benjamina Karić, was held today in the Olympic Committee of BiH.

President Marijan Kvesić reported that the leaders of the BiH Olympic Committee three days ago, as part of the ANOK session in Crete, held a meeting with the President of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco Bravo, who fully supported this idea and project.

The Mayor informed the members of the Presidency of the OK BiH that she had already initiated a series of meetings with the same goal, and among them was a visit to the Spanish Embassy in BiH, which fully supported this idea and project. In case of candidacy, the City of Sarajevo would be obliged to completely reconstruct the Bob track on Trebević, so that it would already be in function for test competitions before the Games. The reconstructed track would host competitions in three sports in several disciplines: bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton.

Ultimately, getting the organization of the Games for the second time with the reconstruction of sports facilities that will contribute not only to the development of top sports but also to the development of tourist offers of the City of Sarajevo and the region is a goal worth sacrificing.

Will we see each other in Barcelona and Sarajevo 2030, is a question to which we will not have an answer in the foreseeable future, but for such ideas and initiatives to be a dormant Olympic spirit, a sense of friendship, togetherness, and respect, that's for sure!
