The BiH Taekwondo Federation provided support to the Olympic Committee of BiH

The Taekwondo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina sent its support to the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occasion of the recently held round table on "Systemic financing of sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina".

President of the BiH Taekwondo Federation, Samir Šarić, points out that local communities support the sport in various ways, but that these things need to be solved systematically at the state level.

"We fully support the BiH Olympic Committee in the fight for better conditions for sports and athletes in our country. We believe that systemic funding is among the priorities for the well-being and improvement of the entire sport, and we invite all sports federations in Bosnia and Herzegovina to provide support to the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The financing of top sports needs to be resolved so that the athletes who represent the country at the most prestigious competitions have adequate conditions, and that they can focus on sports work and results, instead of having to think about whether they will be able to go to a certain competition at all. This year, our representative Nedžad Husić was at the European and World Championships, and four times at Grand Prix tournaments. He achieved the best result in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Olympic Games, and we still think before every competition whether he will be able to go and represent Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition to him, nine of our representatives went to the European Cadet Championship thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton. Support for taekwondo sport and Nedžad Husić's trip to competitions was given by the chairman of the Sarajevo city council, Jasmin Ademović, on the initiative of councilor Samir Bejić, and the municipality of Novo Sarajevo and mayor Hasan Tanović. We are the first association that builds infrastructure without state support. Thanks to the Municipality of Novi Grad, we got space in the Safet Zajko center for the construction of a national taekwondo center, but we are still waiting for support in the construction. The association provided 70,000 KM of its own funds for the first phase of works for the center in Sarajevo and 40,000 KM for the center in Livno, but for the final construction, the support of higher levels of government is also needed," said Šarić.

In the end, he added that they are ready to go to protests for a better tomorrow in Bosnia and Herzegovina sports.

"The Olympic Committee of BiH does a lot for sports and athletes, which is also this initiative that we must all stand by and support. We are ready to go to protests if necessary. We invest the least in the region and then we are surprised that we still do not have an Olympic medal. We are asking for an increase in the budget to the level of the European Union average of one percent, as well as the other demands listed at the OC BiH round table," said Samir Šarić at the end.
