THE FIRST RESULTS OF BIH ATHLETES IN 2022

Although we are only at the beginning of 2022, our athletes are already achieving results. Below you can read the achievements of BiH athletes at the very beginning of this year.

TENNIS
Our best doubles tennis player Tomislav Brkić started 2022 in a great way by qualifying for the semifinals of the doubles at the ATP 250 tournament in Adelaide.

He played in this tournament in a pair with Santiago Gonzalez. Brkić and the 38-year-old Mexican reached the semifinals with victories over Treat Huey and Frederik Nielsen and over Aleksandar Vukić and Edward Winter.

However, Brkić and Gonzalez lost in the semifinals against Rohan Bopanna and Ramkumar Ramanathan with a score of 2: 0. It should be noted that their semi-final opponents eventually won this tournament.

In tennis, great news also comes from the junior category, Tea Kovačević, the best junior of Bosnia and Herzegovina under 12 and 14 years of age, is the winner of this year's 28th major world junior tournament "LEMON BOWL 2022" which took place in Rome.

In this tournament, Tea Kovačević lost only seven games in five matches until winning the title. In the final, she beat American Castracani Camilla Olga 6-2, 6-0.

By winning this prestigious world junior tournament, Tea confirmed the world-class and showed that Bosnia and Herzegovina currently has one of the best juniors in the world in this category.

SHOOTING
Last weekend, the Walther Cup and the 25th Skirca Open were held in Trin, Slovenia, with several hundred competitors from 9 countries.

Competitors of the Sarajevo Shooting club were very successful and won two other places, individually and as a team, with a new state record.

The best bh. competitor, state champion, and state record holder Segmedina Bjelošević shot great and set a new state record again. She took 4th place in the final shooting. Together with Aja Basarić and Aida Arnautović, they won 2nd place as a team, behind the host team.

On the second day of the competition, the national champion and record holder Nedzad Dzankovic shot excellently in the qualifications as well as in the semifinal round. In the final ranking, he won an excellent 2nd place.

It should be noted that this is the first competition according to the new rules and that the competitors from Sarajevo did very well in the new circumstances.

ICE SKATING
The great news is coming to us from the world of skating. The senior member of the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina in short track, Tarik Omeragić, participated in the international competition ISU Challenge 2-Panonia Open, which was held from 07 to 09.01.2022. in Budapest (Hungary).

157-speed skaters from 15 countries participated in this competition, and our Tarik had a good performance. In the 1500 m he took 4th place, in the 500 m he was seventh, and in the 1000 m, he finished in 13th place. He took 8th place in the overall standings.

It is especially worth noting that our national team member set a new state record in the 1000 m in a time of 1:26,967, and is now the owner of two state records, in the 500 m and 1000 m.

This is a confirmation that he is in good shape before his performance at the World Cup, which will be held in March this year in Canada.

Also, the senior national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina, dance skating couple, Ekatarina Mitrofanova / Vladislav Kasinskij, with the support of the Federation of Skating Sports of Bosnia and Herzegovina, will perform from 10 to 16 January 2022. at the European Championships, held in Tallinn (Estonia). Performance in the short program is 14.01. at 11 am with a live TV broadcast on Eurosport 2.

In the competition of the best dance couples in Europe, we expect a good performance by Ekaterina and Vladislav, and, in addition to the placement, to win a sufficient number of points to perform at the World Championships to be held in March this year in France.

Congratulations to our athletes, their coaches, and home federations, and we wish them sports luck and good health in the upcoming competition period.
