The XXXII Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games have been officially closed!

With the extinguishing of the Olympic flame and the handing over of the IOC flag to the host of the next edition of the Summer Games, the Olympic Games were ceremoniously closed at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo.

Our best athlete Amel Tuka had the honor of carrying the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the closing ceremony. This time in a slightly different format, when instead of the usual parade, all the flag bearers went out together to the Olympic Stadium, after which they were joined by athletes coming out from 4 sides of the stadium.

From July 23 until today, August 8, we had the opportunity to follow the XXXII edition of the Summer Olympic Games, whose hosts successfully responded to all the challenges that arose as a result of the pandemic. This year's edition of the Olympic Games is in many ways special, starting with the postponement of the Games for 2021, the organization's challenges in special circumstances, the Games without spectators in the stands and all the accompanying challenges that they successfully managed in cooperation with relevant partners, participants and stakeholders. The Tokyo 2020 Olympics were attended by 11,000 athletes from more than 200 countries in 46 Olympic disciplines.

For our athletes and the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, these are the most successful Games. Nedžad Husić surpassed the best result in Bosnia and Herzegovina  as an athlete at the Olympics, held for 21 years by shooter Nedzad Fazlija. Fazlija won the 6th place in the 10m air rifle discipline in Sydney in 2000, and nineteen-year-old Nedžad Husić reached the semifinals in his debut performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, thus being the closest to winning an Olympic medal for Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the final ranking, Husić took the 5th place in the category up to 68 kg.

Our athletes Amel Tuka and Mesud Pezer also won two finals in the queen of sports - athletics, which, having in mind the importance and weight of the athletic Olympic final, is a great success not only for our athletes but also for Bosnia and Herzegovina athletics and bh. sport. Amel Tuka won a high 6th place in the final race in the 800m, despite an accident in the final (when he was hit in the muscle), which is his best result at the Olympics. In great qualifications, Mesud, as the third-placed player, won the participation in the final of shot put, in which he took the 11th place, which is his best result so far. Larisa Cerić took the 9th place in the + 78kg category in a demanding draw after one victory and one defeat.

Our youngest representative at the Olympic Games ever, fifteen-year-old swimmer Lana Pudar won 19th place in the 100m dolphin, which is an exceptional debut performance at the Games whose experience will surely be an important pledge for the future career and future young hope at Olympics. In addition to Lana, Emir Muratović also competed in swimming in the 50 and 100m freestyle disciplines for the first time in the Olympics, in which he achieved 42nd and 45th place. Tatjana Đekanović took 47th place in the 10m air rifle shooting discipline.

Congratulations to our athletes, coaches and sports federations of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are proud of you! Thanks to Tokyo. See you in Paris in 2024! #BHTeam!
