At the European Taekwondo Championship for seniors, held in Sofia, BiH representatives Marija Štetić and Nedžad Husić won silver medals. This is the first time that Bosnia and Herzegovina has a medal from the European Championship in the senior category in Olympic taekwondo.

Marija Štetić, a scholarship holder of the NOC BiH, competed in the category up to 62 kilograms, where in the first fight she defeated the representative of Hungary with the result 20:4. In the second fight, Štetić defeated the representative of Italy (15:4), while in the semifinal fight she was better than the representative of Turkey (21:11). In the final she was defeated by the representative of Croatia with the result 14:10.

Nedžad Husić competed in the category up to 74 kilograms, and the competition started with a victory against the representative of Denmark with the result 38:18. He finished the second fight by knocking out the representative of Serbia, while in the third he was better than the representative of Croatia (55:40). In the semi-final fight, he defeated the representative of Belgium (18:11), and in the final fight he was defeated by the Poles with the result 16:12.

Bosnia and Herzegovina was also represented at the European Championships by Dora Marušić, who was defeated by the representative of Turkey, and Dinko Šegedin, who lost in the fight for a medal to the representative of Russia.

With these results, Marija Štetić and Nedžad Husić wrote the history of Olympic taekwondo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and showed that they are in great shape before qualifying for the Olympic Games. The Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina extends its sincere congratulations to Marija, Nedžad, their coaches and clubs, as well as to the Taekwondo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The four-day European Taekwondo Championship brought together 363 of the best athletes from 45 European countries, 161 women and 262 men competitors. The Championship itself was held in accordance with epidemiological measures, and all participants had to have a negative COVID-19 test before entering the competition zone. During the event, there were a number of health protocols to protect the safety of all participants.
