NOC BIH Medical Commission COVID 19 Guidelines

The Medical Commission of the BiH Olympic Committee has recommended guidelines for elite athletes, their doctors and coaches, which refer to gradual return to the field after coronavirus infection, which can create a different clinical picture, from asymptomatic to critical form of Covid-19 disease.

"The consequences of premature return to the field after coronavirus can be fatal for athletes. Namely, athletes often neglect their health in order to achieve top results. Encouraged by the desire to help our athletes, the Commission created a protocol for gradual return to the field after a coronavirus infection. It is important to conduct appropriate diagnostic procedures at certain times to minimize the risk of an adverse event. Athletes, club doctors and coaches must be aware of the length and difficulty of returning to the field, "said Dr. Dženan Jahić, President of the Medical Commission of the NOC of BIH.

Mr.sci.dr. Nihad Selimović, a member of the NOC Executive Committee and coordinator of the Medical Commission of the NOC BIH, said that this protocol is the first document of its kind in BiH.

"It sublimates the experiences of respectable world institutions and as such should be widely used in our sports system. The protocol should primarily serve our athletes, medical teams in sports clubs and national teams. It defines clear guidelines when an athlete (after an illness caused by coronavirus) can return to the field", said mr.sci.dr. Selimovic.
